Behavioral Medicine Consultants

A behavioral medicine consultant (BMC) can help you learn to manage the everyday stresses that affect your well-being and may contribute to physical symptoms. These stresses could include living with an illness or painful condition, problems at home or work, the loss of a loved one, or the challenges of caregiving. For many people, stress can lead to depression or anxiety. A BMC works closely with your medical provider and can assist you with making helpful changes in your life, as well as providing you information and recommendations about the full range of Kaiser Permanente services available. Appointments are limited and each session is 25 minutes. Open to Kaiser Permanente members only.

Department of Psychiatry Adult Team

The Department of Psychiatry Adult Team offers a wide variety of outpatient services for adult members who live with psychiatric disorders. These services include crisis services, medication evaluations, and short-term individual and group psychotherapy. They also offer specialized programs for problems such as eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, and panic disorder. Services for anxiety and depression include a full array of treatment approaches, including cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal therapy, and medication. You do not need a referral to our department to receive mental health services. You can call us and speak directly to a receptionist who will make an appointment for you with our Adult Assessment Program within a week. The assessment program includes a short orientation to our services and a brief, face-to-face screening appointment with one of our clinicians. After the screening, you will likely be seen for a full evaluation session the following week. You and your clinician will then create an appropriate treatment plan, which may include individual psychotherapy, medication, education, or a combination of these services. Occasionally, the receptionist may refer you to a triage clinician who will contact you to conduct a short telephone interview, and then schedule an appointment that best meets your needs. Psychiatry services are available for Kaiser Permanente members only.
